I love Manowar, I love this band with all my heart. That love has been going on for almost 20 years. Talking bad about the band Manowar in my presence is not the smartest idea – such words can be fatal for the one who utters them. That is why the release of each new Manowar release represents a very important date in my life.

On June 22, 2022, a new EP called “Highlights from the Revenge of Odysseus” inspired by Hellenic mythology was released. The first track “Athena’s Theme” is a short epic intro, followed by ”Telemachus – Part I” which is a narrative intro spoken in Greek language. “Where eagles fly” is the first new song from Manowar. It is a ballad that features guest vocalist Chiara Tricarico (Moonlight Haze, Ravenword, Sound Storm). I have to admit, I didn’t like this song the first time I listened to it, but I liked it more and more with each subsequent listen. Really nice ballad!

Another narrative intro “Odysseus and Calypso – The Island of Ogygia” follows, and “Immortal” is left for the very end. That’s it – that’s the real Manowar!

I’ll be completely honest, I rarely write for Abaddon magazine for several reasons. One of them is that I’m sick of today’s metal scene. I feel sick when I see what the leading labels are publishing today. Pirate metal, commodore metal, nintendo metal, goat metal… What is the next – Walt Disney metal? These 2 Manowar songs are worth more than the entire discographies of those kinds of bands. “Immortal” offers 6+ minutes of true epic metal at its finest.

And no matter how big a Manowar fan I am, I would have one complaint – the production could have been better considering the reputation of the band. I hope this will be fixed on the next release.

With Manowar, everything is clear – those who don’t like this band will use this EP to continue their attacks on the band. We, the true fans of Manowar, will enjoy this masterpiece and eagerly await the new album.

Hail to the Kings of Metal! Hail Manowar!
