Label: Godz of War Productions

Release date: January 30th, 2025

These weeks I have had good luck finding releases of Polish label Godz of War Productions. And let me tell you something, all the stuff released by them I heard so far were good or even very good ones. It’s not different in case of the debut EP of young, found in 2023, an ensemble coming from the second most populous city of Portugal. This band is called Repugnator and I recommend you to remember this name. The fact is that the release date is quite distant in time, January 30th, so I’m not sure if it’s still possible to buy a CD. But nothing stops you from contacting the band or a label and just asking about this, I guess. Well, if I was in your shoes, I’d don’t waste my time anymore and do it immediately.

There’s absolutely nothing groundbreaking about these five songs taking seventeen minutes and forty-one seconds. To be honest, this is even the contrary. I mean, you won’t find even a hint of originality in this music. Personally, I have heard such playing probably a few thousand times in the space of all these years I’m, with every year deeper and deeper, into the metal scene. And it’s with great pleasure that I listen to “Foul…” again and again. Actually, I already think it’ll be a pity when I must leave this EP alone to write another review. You know, I’m a huge fan of such creativity, even if it depends on my mood. I don’t even mean this particular sub-genre of our beloved music, although I love it, but hatred, darkness and fury emanating from every entire sound. It’s not too advanced from a technical point of view and I’m perfectly aware that for some people that’s downright, not even primitive, but rude playing, playing that’s offensive to their eardrums. But I don’t give a shit! In my opinion this is what we call metal spirit. I don’t care if I’m able to listen to a few riffs the whole time, rhythmic drumming without any complicated passages and so on. Vocalizations are also typic for music our Portuguese metal brothers serve us. That’s something between deep growling and black metal screech. It has more to do with this second one, by the way. The same thing I can say about music itself. This is first of all Black Art, as dirty and hateful as it only can be, with some touches of death metal. But these touches are delicate and not too often.

I know this may sound downright bizarre for some of the readers, but that item just can’t be boring at all. I’ve been listening to this for probably, at least, twenty times and it doesn’t stop me from pressing the start button once again and once again – till I’ll be forced by the situation to focus on some other release of another ensemble. I’m sure the same will happen with you. This, of course, applies to geeks like me, who think metal is much more than only a collection of sounds, who don’t need some sophisticated guitar tricks, virtuosic drum passages and stuff like that. I like very much such things from time to time, but the problem with it is that most bands who try to create such music forget about what is the most important in metal,  what for metal, and not only, music was created for. I wrote before what it is in my opinion, so I don’t think I should repeat the thing.

So, if you’re sharing my passion when it takes music, don’t wait any moment longer and contact the band or the label. Yeah, you can quite easily find it online, but anyway. I don’t think you give much support to the band, and even more to a label, only by listening to their stuff online and not spreading a word about it. But maybe I’m just too old to have a different way of thinking about things. Anyway, Repugnator is one more example supporting the thesis I wrote before several times: some countries have great bands, but somehow are, let’s call it, ignored by most people. Well, I don’t condemn them for that, because not everyone is the one who’s so deep into the underground. I guess that’s the only right way, but…

I was born quite a long time ago in Poland (1974) to support the scene and keep metal flames away, even though I officially started to listen to metal at age of 13. Few years later (4, maybe 5) I decided to edit my own fanzine and this adventure lasted over years. Then, after graduating journalism, I wrote reviews, made interviews and live reports for some magazines. I moved to Sweden and my journey continued. Finally I became a part of the Abaddon team, where I'll stay until the last breath!!! I'd like to develop together with this magazine.
