Label: Hells Headbangers Records

Release date: April 25th, 2025

So, here’s the second well-known, but unfortunately not for everyone, horde I promised in my last scribble. I know the first period of Profanatica was quite short (1990 – 1992) and then they were real underground ensemble who released only demos, EP and split with Colombian legend coming from Medellin, but they came back from the ashes over two decades ago and are really active with releasing several types of stuffs, including six studio and two live albums. Besides, the only original member, the same like two another founders of the band, played before in legend of American death metal and I’m sure their names (Paul Ledney, Aragon Amori and Brett Makowski) aren’t anonymous ones for every, or at least most of, fan of mentioned before sub-genre of metal and I don’t need to what legendary, still alive, ensemble I’m talking about.

But for unknown reasons Profanatica’s recognition is what it is and that’s why I decided to not do the same thing I did when I reviewed “Ravage…”. I mean, I know only a few of us know and love this band and a lot of readers need to get some details to know what to expect. So, the creativity of Connecticut’s residents has some common points with John McEntee’s group. But at the same time there are some quite huge differences. Profanatica, what you probably deduced from the name and maybe even artwork, is more dedicated to black metal. There’re elements of death and only as deaf as a stone won’t hear this, but I always associated it with black, even if the structure of tracks was and still is more in death, I guess. I can clearly hear in these six tracks taking twenty-one minutes and eleven seconds influences of old-school Finnish hordes like… Well, it’d be too easy if I’d write some names here. But my hint, which also makes things as easy as pie and anyone will be forced to dig deeper, is that their debut full lengths were “Drawing Down the Moon” and “Tol Cormpt Norz Norz Norz”. Some connections with “Fallen Angel of Doom…”  are also possible to notice. Of course, I’m not saying you’ll be able to listen to, let’s call it, a specific mix of mentioned before legends. You can, and probably will, have some other ensembles on your mind when you’ll listen to this album released on April 25th in all possible formats (12” vinyl, cassette, CD and digital – two first mentioned are available as limited editions) by American Hells Headbangers Records EP. With every entire listening experience I discover something new and the names of bands, also coming from South America, who cross my mind change from time to time. Maybe that’s like that, because I know too many bands, too many of them are real legends for me and so on.

Well, hell with that, actually! The only important thing here is if you love darkness, brutality, aggression and such stuff in music, then you shouldn’t be passive anymore! I if you love darkness, brutality, aggression and such stuff in music, then you shouldn’t be passive anymore! I mean, just choose what format you are interested in having on your shelf, I know there’re , and there’s quite many of them, such maniacs between us who’ll decide to get all physic ones, and contact the label or a band immediately.

I was born quite a long time ago in Poland (1974) to support the scene and keep metal flames away, even though I officially started to listen to metal at age of 13. Few years later (4, maybe 5) I decided to edit my own fanzine and this adventure lasted over years. Then, after graduating journalism, I wrote reviews, made interviews and live reports for some magazines. I moved to Sweden and my journey continued. Finally I became a part of the Abaddon team, where I'll stay until the last breath!!! I'd like to develop together with this magazine.
