American funeral doom pioneers “Evoken” will bring their crushingly atmospheric sound to Belgrade at SKC baza (Cetinjska 15) thanks to the collaboration of “Nekroskop booking” and “Mjolnir promotion”, offering Serbian fans a rare chance to experience one of the genre’s most respected and enduring bands live on the 12th of August.
Formed in 1992, “Evoken” quickly established themselves as one of the defining acts of the funeral doom metal genre. Over the years, the band has become a benchmark for atmospheric doom, influencing countless artists within the genre. The band’s debut full-length album, “Embrace the Emptiness” from 1998, introduced listeners to their signature sound, while acclaimed releases such as “Quietus” from 2001, and “A Caress of the Void” from 2007, as well as “Atra Mors” released in 2012, and “Hypnagogia” from 2018 further cemented their reputation as one of funeral doom’s most important names. Critics and fans alike have praised Evoken for their ability to balance overwhelming heaviness with moments of haunting beauty, creating albums that feel cinematic in scope and emotionally profound.
Live, Evoken transforms every performance into an immersive ritual. Audiences can expect massive walls of sound built upon slow, crushing riffs, thunderous bass, deep growls, sparse melodic keyboards, and hypnotic compositions that unfold with deliberate patience. Rather than relying on speed or aggression, the band creates an atmosphere of immense weight and emotional depth, drawing listeners into a dark and meditative sonic experience unlike anything else in extreme metal. Their influence extends far beyond the United States. Throughout their career, Evoken has performed at major underground festivals across Europe and North America, earning a reputation for mesmerizing live performances that perfectly capture the oppressive beauty of their studio recordings. More than thirty years after their formation, they remain one of the most revered names in funeral doom, continuing to inspire new generations of doom musicians.
Opening the evening will be “Wurmloch”, a melodic funeral doom metal band from Temerin. Combining mournful melodies with crushing heaviness, the band represents the growing Serbian doom metal scene and will provide the perfect introduction to the night’s atmosphere. Also appearing is “Noetic Coil”, an experimental electroacoustic dark ambient project from Belgrade. Their immersive soundscapes blend ambient textures, industrial elements, and ritualistic atmospheres, creating an eerie sonic environment that complements the funeral doom aesthetic.
