I’m mortified at the prospect of writing this review. No, it’s not because of the music itself, nor because I’m two days away from “leaving on a jet plane” to my vacation and in dire need to finish this beforehand. It’s not even the obligation to write this. I’m in no way obliged to do so. It’s a task I’ve laid upon myself. It wasn’t mandated by any agreement or force. The thing is that I want to write a review for Mr. Vranjković’s new EP. Yet, the terror from doing so remains…

It stems mostly from the fact that Mr. Vranjković’s music is not for writing some smart-ass comments. It wasn’t made to be analysed, dissected, and force-fed into a genre-based drawer. On the other hand, it is created to be thought-inducing. It’s out there to move you internally. To shake your emotional assembly and evoke the innermost feelings up to the surface. Whether sadness, melancholy, rage, hopelessness, empathy… Or just entrancement, peace of mind, enjoyment in those little things that make life grand.

Depending on how you read and interpret the lyrics. If there was ever lyrical importance for the understanding of the work of art as a whole, it’s in Mr. Vranjković’s opus. In the past, I’ve been known to fall asleep during the listening sessions, just as I knew how to scream at the top of my lungs. Particularly at his life performances. Again, it’s the perception and the momentary state of affairs, in my life and outside of my own fleshly shell.

A deeply atmospheric and dreadfully emotional music. Most certainly not for the faint of heart. And that is a rather short list of people who will fully comprehend the grandeur of Nikola Vranjković. No matter how big of a stage he’s performing on. As indicated by the live setting of the band he’s basically conducting.

As for the new EP, it falls under everything I’ve already written. Nothing much has changed from his previous releases. Hence, it is unnecessary to delve further into describing this one in particular. For those unfamiliar with the band’s work, well, sorry… I’m not the one who will write what needs to be written. It is my firm belief that only Mr. Vranjković is able to do so correctly, with the correct and full sight and understanding. And he does so exactly through his pulsating stream of notes flowing out of the speakers. A “catch 22”, without a doubt, but what can I say!?

Best I can do is to recommend listening. And listening closely. Go ahead, don’t worry, it’s only mortifying if you try and write about it.
