In a thunderous return from the abyss, depressive black metal stalwarts Ghost Bath have released their latest album “Rose Thorn Necklace” out now via Nuclear Blast Records. The release marks a bold, uncompromising evolution of their sound as the band steps beyond their famed conceptual trilogy “Moonlover”, “Starmourner” and “Self Loather” into rawer, more visceral territory.
Crafted between January and June 2024, the album is a deeply personal creation by frontman Nameless (Dennis Mikula), who recorded the majority of the music at his home studio. The drums were tracked by Mike Heller at Heaven and Heller Studios, with mixing and mastering handled by Jack Shirley. The haunting cover art was designed by Ksenija Tarasova, echoing the album’s anguished beauty.
In a statement, Ghost Bath commented:
“Rose Thorn Necklace is now yours. This latest offering is very special and we hope you take from it whatever you need.”
The album is accompanied by a visualizer for the standout track “Vodka Butterfly”. The title is as poetic and volatile as the sounds it delivers, offering a powerful contrast between serrated aggression and fragile melancholy.
Adding to the excitement, Ghost Bath will be appearing at this year’s Rockstadt Extreme Fest, one of Europe’s most celebrated extreme metal gatherings. Known for their emotionally intense live performances, fans can expect a cathartic experience as the band brings “Rose Thorn Necklace” to life on stage. With the new material’s heavier emotional weight and sharpened sonic palette, their set is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated of the festival.
Ghost Bath’s Rockstadt set promises not just music, but a descent into the beautifully bleak. For those craving a raw and unfiltered immersion into the void, this performance will offer an experience that should not be missed.
