Label: Independent

Release date: April 4th, 2025

In April, many materials presenting good quality came on the light. That’s both about pure performance skills and creative quality. Another, but certainly not the last, proof of this presented by my scribble is just reviewed, sticking to nomenclature commonly used (even if my old-school mind is somehow protesting) today, EP. But before I get down to specifics, I will briefly introduce the band to you. The reason is I’m more than sure you’re hearing this name for the first time in your life. Well, i.e. the name itself perhaps sticks to some of you because it’s quite popular in our Metal world. But the country of origin of this Godless is probably very exotic for most people, even if there’s a very vibrant and diverse scene over there. What country am I speaking about? The answer is: India. Godless comes from 4th the most populous city of the country and was founded a decade ago. This time resulted with releasing three (including “Genesis…”) EPs and one album.

It may not seem like a very large number, but quality is more important than quantity, right? And even if I didn’t hear their previous achievements (I’ll catch up on this as soon as possible), judging by this EP I have an impression that guys think exactly the same way. “Genesis of Decay” contains five not too long and at the same time not too short songs – all of them take less than four minutes. Well, the third one, “Prologue to Dissent”, is the shortest one and takes only one minute and eight seconds. But this is the instrumental track which we can call an intro. Otherwise residents of Hyderabad treat us with uncompromising and untamed slaughter in USA’s northern coast style.  I don’t mention, even if I do it always indirectly, any name here. The reason is the ensembles I associate it with are real giants and at the same time legends of death metal. I can only write that they were all born in the eighties and are based in Florida nowadays (one of them was founded in Buffalo). And here I could stop my writing, because I somehow can’t imagine a situation where you didn’t guess what ensembles I’m talking about. And this is regardless of whether you’re an ardent or, as it is called in Poland – I hope you’ll know what this saying means, Sunday fan of death metal. You know, bands I mentioned before, of course as always indirectly and even enigmatically, are known to all metalheads worldwide, so…

That’s why I deeply doubt I need to write about broken riffs, sick guitar tricks, tempo or growling here. This would certainly make this review much longer if I did it, but in my opinion, it’d just be a waste of space, your time and my energy. That’s the reason why I won’t do it! Of course, our metal brothers from India create their own music, but at the same time this is strongly influenced by the East Coast way of playing death metal. I’d say, to describe it a little closer, that this is a hybrid of Florida and New York styles. I can hear some other influences here, too. But they’re not so, let’s call it, even if this word isn’t the most accurate and I should use some other one, important.

So, don’t waste your time anymore and order this released on April 4th independently by this ensemble “Genesis of Decay”! You can choose between, what’s a very good habit of more and more bands and labels, even if it generates costs, digital albums and CDs. And I somehow feel you know extremely well what portal you should visit to do it in the easiest possible way. If not – just write to the address below.

I was born quite a long time ago in Poland (1974) to support the scene and keep metal flames away, even though I officially started to listen to metal at age of 13. Few years later (4, maybe 5) I decided to edit my own fanzine and this adventure lasted over years. Then, after graduating journalism, I wrote reviews, made interviews and live reports for some magazines. I moved to Sweden and my journey continued. Finally I became a part of the Abaddon team, where I'll stay until the last breath!!! I'd like to develop together with this magazine.
